'World Trade, Second Plane': Fall Out Boy Releases Sequel to 'We Didn't Start the Fire'
34 years after Billy Joel outlined every political pop cultural event plaguing our society in 1989’s “We Didn’t Start The Fire,” Fall Out Boy has picked up where the piano man left off decades ago, offering their rendition of the hit.
Outlining everything from the Oklahoma City Bombing to Twilight to Fyre Festival, My Chemical Romance’s The Black Parade, and the Ever Given getting stick in the Suez Canal, the song is contextless and oh-so amusing. Though as one of our colleagues noted, its lack of chronological order lends itself more to a randomized list of (not-so) current events than its scathing predecessor, it is a certifiable bop – a gimmicky bop but a bop nonetheless.
Fall Out Boy did not start the fire, but they have given us the bop of the summer.
